I love his early/mid 90's sound.
What's yours?

I love most of his tones, but I actually like his current Telecaster-based tone best. It has a more acoustic quality than his earlier hum bucker tones. When I saw him play earlier this year, he ran his Tele into a stereo delay into two Deluxe Reverbs in stereo and it just enveloped us like a shimmering cloud of beauty.
The only tone of his I don't like so much is when he ran his guitar synth into the Rat and used the volume pedal like on Resistor from Rambler. I find it just too ugly.

What was he using on that Kenny Wheeler track - does anyone know?

All I know is he was still using his Klein guitar during that time. The amp could have been a number of amps in the studio, but probably something small and Fenderish. More than likely he used the DD3 and a Lexicon or Alesis microverb.
Just for fun....

Aha...good work Melodic Dreamer. The piezo probably gives it some acoustic depth that you don't get from magnetic pickups alone. I think that's what characterises his Klein clean.
