From what I understand, Bill gets his distortion by running either a Rat, a TS or a Metal Muff into a clean amp. Does anyone know on which albums he used which pedals? I'm guessing This Land is a Rat and Gone... is a TS?

He has been using a Rat and/or TS forever. The metal Muff is pretty recent. He has also been known to use a Maxon SD9 on occasion. In terms of albums though, I think most things mid 90's and back was the Rat.

His show on November 20th the Muff was replaced with the Katzenkonig, which is inspired by the Rat.

Interesting - I have a TS808 clone and a Rat clone. I find them both pretty good, the Rat is squishier and obviously has more gain. The Rat has 6 different clipping modes, and the nicest sounding is the 'Mosfet OD' mode.
Recently I've been using a Zoom G5 multi-fx, which has emulations of many distortion and overdrive pedals. I like the Guvnor emulation, it's a bit softer than the Rat. The Zoom G5 is really clever, but it has an slight but apparent chorusy effect that's always-on. Like a slight comb filter or something, even with no effects turned on. It still sounds great, just a bit artificial.

I have tried doing the all in one pedalboard things, but the feel is never there for me. I have a friend who is hard-core Line6 anything and he has tried to get me to jump on board, but it never reacts to touch the same way a good tube amp does.

You're right, but I do play it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, which helps a lot. I just don't think anyone's quite got Multi FX right yet…I still reckon it could be done. A cross between EHX craziness and TC electronic quality...

I've got a Way Huge Red Llama on loan at the moment. I'm liking it. It's got me thinking about dirt pedals again...

Bill hasn't used the Rat in 10+ years, to my knowledge. TS9 has been a staple throughout this period, however. In more recent years, he's accompanied the TS9 with a EH Pocket Metal Muff or Catalinbread Katzenkonig. As of a few weeks ago, he's back to the Metal Muff (confirmed by a photo on Instagram by Petra Haden).
I love anything and everything green pedals (TS808, TS9, TS10 - my favorite from the Tubescreamer family, DL4, etc). Bill and I seem to have that in common.
I've been really into Bill's '85-'95 period as of late (I miss the compressor and volume pedal combo). I own a Keeley modded Rat that continues to grow on me, and there is a RAT White Face Reissue in the mail for me as I type this.
Bill's EH Metal Muff usage continues to baffle me, however. It's completely and utterly unusable in my hands.

What's everyone into now? I've still been enjoying the Zoom G5. Best £100 I ever spent on eBay. I managed to get rid of that chorussy thing. It's got it's own character to the distortion though...so has Boss and so has Line 6. The one thing it doesn't really do is covered by my Mooer Blues Crab - that thing is great.

Same old stuff. Still using the gear I've had for awhile now. If I am playing through the Goodsell or the Carr and needing dirt I have a Timmy, Simble, Alpha Dog and a Bone Machine fuzz.
Being a Michael Landau fanboy I also have a CAE OD100 Classic Plus 100 watt head that I use channel two for dirt and then add a Voodoo-1, SD9 or MJM Roctavios to push it into high-gain.
