Wow! Welcome to the forum Josh and Melodic Dreamer, may we have many happy musical conversations.
It would be great if you could tell us:
a) your fave BF record, and why
b) something about yourself
Welcome!

Aaron here, looking forward to see how this forum develops. Play a little guitar but not to the degree I would call myself a musician.Happen to live in Bill's home town of Seattle and have seen him live many times. That's how I like him best, over his studio work. Often the albums seem a jumping off point to how the material develops live. Have a You Tube channel where I've upload around a 100 vid's of Bill. www.youtube.com/channel/UCj4k1hrv2fHyidIQYUyJs0w

Hello! Another big Bill fan here. East/West was my first exposure to Bill and still my favorite. I am also a Rick Kelly Bowery Pine guitar geek. Wade

Hi Aaron
yes, I've spent many an hour watching your videos…you're the No.1 Bill Frisell resource on the web! How did you get all those videos? Are some of them from old VHS tapes? He very rarely plays in the UK, so I've seen him live only once, and although it was possibly my least favourite material that he's ever done (his new album) it was still beautiful.
I'm Jonny, a composer, guitarist and teacher. I studied composition and guitar at Birmingham Conservatoire and now teach guitar for a living. I also do some professional playing, but it's mainly teaching at the moment. I'm currently in the process of putting a band of excellent musicians together (mainly jazz backgrounds) to play my own pieces as well as those of the other members. I will post the recordings here as and when they're finished.
My favourite Bill record is This Land, but I'm also very partial to Is That You? and Where In The World? I'm currently listening to Rambler in the car every day. I love the atmosphere and character of his music, the contrary motion harmonies, the measured dissonance, the incredible deep embodiment of the history of American music. For me, he is just on another level to any guitarist I've ever heard. He's one of the greatest musicians ever in my opinion.

When it comes to a favorite album that would be to hard to choose. I really enjoy the album he did with Paul Motian and Ron Carter. I enjoy a lot of his side projects. Paul Motian's album "I have the Room Above Her", "songs we know" who he did with Fred Hersch, Kenny Wheeler's "Angel Song" and Lee Konitz's "Enfants Terribles" are some of my favorites.

Hi, My name is Bob Martin and I am a Bill-o-holic. I've been a fan ever since I first met Steve Andersen and bought a guitar from him in 1998, one of his Oval Holes. I ended up getting two more - a Little Archie and an Emerald City Reserve. Through Steve, I've met Bill several times and have become good friends with his circle of people. In 2007, I filmed a short documentary series on Claudia Engelhart, Bill's front of house sound mixer. You can see it on YouTube at this playlist: youtu.be/pb08RLJYrFg?list=PLwbxesoMrtopSjVry69jGKQ2WdEQdP9llRecently, Bill's wife, Carol D'Inverno had an opening for her art exhibit in my town of Rochester, NY, and my band, Margaret Explosion, played for it. We got to know Carol well over dinner the next night and she's a lovely person. I play a Joe Yanuziello electric guitar - sunburst with maple top (I don't know if you have provisions on this forum for embedding photos from links, if you do, I'll share some photos) and I love the guitar. So much so, that I've sold off a few more guitars and have a spruce top version, similar to Bill's, being made, except that I will have a vibrato installed. Probably a Bigsby, but may be a Fender style. So, that's my short story. Pleased to meet you all!

Welcome uburoibob - what's your favourite Bill record? I'll check out that link... Hmmm... overall, I'd go with Good Dog, Happy Man. But there are so many wonderful Bill records. It's like trying to pick a favorite Beatles record. Or Beethoven piece. Mighty tough. What is yours, Rambler? Bob

Hello Mr. Martin! Watched a couple videos of your band on youtube. nice playing and nice tones. Thanks, Melodic Dreamer. I presume your nom de web is carried over from The Gear Page? Bob You presume correctly my dear sir. I remember reading your post in the all things Frisell thread. Like you I am a huge Frisell fan. I'm really hoping in a few months time this forum will take off. I love talking all things Bill, and in essence about really honest music that stirs ups emotion and comradery. I posted a thead in the transcription part of the forum about a communal transcribing event. These kinds of things would create a give and take while allowing ways for us to learn more about the way Bill plays things. Im really hoping for the best for this forum. It's nice seeing you here.

uburoibob - I'm listening to Margaret Explosion right now - it's fantastic. A group of sensitive, improvising musicians on the same wavelength. Great stuff - can you pop it on the Your Music section of the forum. Just post some links up there.
What's the Parker Fly like by the way? Can I hear the piezo mixed-in there? I've often thought a PF might be the end of the rainbow for the perfect-electric-guitar search.
