It'd be nice to have an update from everyone… How are those upper-structure triads going Melodic Dreamer? Have you incorporated them into your playing successfully? 19thcentsawmill did you finish learning those chord-melodies? uburoibob - how's The Margaret Explosion doing? I've been transcribing and practising Julian Lage stuff, and working through Jon Damian's book. successfully? Probably not. lol I wish I had more time to transcribe. Maybe after the first of the year there will be more time for that. How is the Lage stuff going? He is killer. I'm loving his song Ryland. I've transcribed (but not written down yet) Day and Age, Red Prairie Dawn, Gardens and Peru. In each case, just the main sections, but not the solos except a few licks….

Ps. Ryland is really beautiful, I think it's harder to play than it sounds though!

Still learning and relearning. Added Moonlight in Vermont and In My Life to the chord melody list. 3.5 songs down and a gerzillion to go. Played a country / alt-country / classic rock fundraiser gig Friday night. Big fun crowd, fun had by all. Good tunes! I listened to the album in the link below your name. You have a good tone and nice ear for musical melody. Thanks for the listen and the comments. Much appreciated.

By the way...I got the DipABRSM. It was pretty gruelling, but I pulled it off. Did well in the performance and the sight reading, but not so in the Viva Voce/Programme Notes. I also finished the sound track, which is here: vimeo.com/146113779

Congratulations on both!!! Very impressive on the DipABRSM. Did you do the performance on guitar or other instrument? Just curious.
The soundtrack was also impressive. Very cool and inventive music!

Thanks!
The DipABRSM was on guitar. I found it rather gruelling to be honest…if I do the LRSM, I will have to re-learn to play to some extent, as I can feel too much tension in what I'm doing. I probably need to have Alexander Technique, and better posture, not to mention fingernails that don't break every 10 minutes!
The soundtrack was a really interesting project - we had to write to the mood of the piece, but incorporate all this de-syncing into it somehow to reflect the changing biorhythms in the film. It was a case of making it work…then they change the visuals so you have to change the music…rinse and repeat about 10 times. It required slowing down and speeding up sections of the tempo so they line up with certain points in the film - it was mind boggling, but we got there in the end. And although it's entirely electric/electronic I think it has a very organic sound to it…we made extensive use of a Korg Wavedrum, which threw out some really fun sounds.
Now onto an Electric Diploma - has anyone here done one? RGT?
